9/11 My Day With Destiny Time To Share The Story
On this day, September 11th, for the past 12 years I have avoided talking about the events of that day. It is time to face what happened but to also share this story to help others who are facing trials in their own lives. In my career on Wall Street, I spent considerable time inside 2 World Trade Center (south tower). There were many friends and colleagues who still worked there and I felt it was time to visit.
We were scheduled for a business conference in New Hampshire starting on 9/12 so I planned to be in the towers on Tuesday 9/11 to visit old friends, enjoy a night on the town before we headed for the mountains. My mother took ill on the previous Thursday so I canceled our plans. Yes I would have been in the south tower on 9/11 on the upper floors that took the brunt of the second plan crash.

My mother had suffered a heart attack on Thursday, shook me up never been through anything like that. When we brought her home on Monday the 10th my father said it would be ok for me to go my business trip. My mom said can you miss this one? I said sure mom in case you need my help.
So on Tuesday 9/11 I got up reading the Wall Street Journal and watching CNBC they reported a fire in the north tower at around 8:45. I called a friend in the south tower who was cut off during the conversation. From that point the phones were dead and circuits were busy. I couldn’t get through to anyone, feeling totally helpless. Then I saw something on CNBC that I couldn’t believe.
9/11 My Day With Destiny This Was No Accident
When I saw that second plane coming in and deliberately crashing into the south tower my only thought was “that is exactly were I would be today if not for my mom”. Then I realized that if anyone was on those floors they were toast. I was unable to contact anyone all circuits were busy. In fact it was 6 weeks later that I got a call from my old boss who told me what had happened.
It seems after the first plane hit the north tower, all my former co-workers started evacuating the south tower. All but 9 were out of the building by the time the south tower collapsed, with 5 minutes to spare. There is such a lesson to learn in this, how fragile life really is. We never know what tomorrow will bring, so please give thanks for everything you have today. Some of you are probably facing difficult circumstances, start giving thanks to them as well in fact be thankful for everything both good and bad. We never enjoy a rainbow without the storm.
